Questioning Skills

In reading and in science, we have been working on asking and answering questions. Learning how to ask a great question is the simplest and the most effective way of learning. I tell the kids that brilliant thinkers, never stop asking questions. We discussed that strong questions can only be answered by investigation or research; whereas "easy peasey" questions are those with a simple answer. Before reading a story or selection, it is a great idea to have your child ask some questions aloud that they think they might be able to find the answer to while reading. Then after your child has read, ask if they found the answers to their questions. This will give them a purpose for reading and help them focus their attention on what is read.
