The newest island was formed from November 2014 through January 2015. It is called Hunga Tonga. It is located in the South Pacific, east of Australia. The new island is part of a group of islands formed by volcanic activity. This new island is about 1 mile wide and 1 mile long. It is 390 feet high.
Visiting the island is still highly dangerous. A photographer, Gianpiero Orbassano, went to Hunga Tonga to take photographs. "It's really quite solid once you are on it and it's quite high," he said. He also said that the ground was still hot.
Isn't it exciting that our Earth changes all of the time?
