Students expand their skill and understanding of place value.  We begin this unit by bundling 1,000 straws so the children can visually see what 1,000 looks like.  Then we bundle them into groups of 10, and then 100 so they can be counted more efficiently. The children work with numbers that consist of three units: hundreds, tens, and ones. Instruction moves from physical bundles to more abstract place value disks and then numbers on a place value chart.
